Quick-Commerce Delivery Partner (Zepto, Blinkit, Instamart)

डिलीवरी पार्टनर (ज़ेप्टो, ब्लिंकिट, इंस्टामार्ट)

Delivering groceries from a dark store to homes nearby, paid per order. Quick to start if you have a two-wheeler, but fuel and repairs come out of your own pocket.

Not yet confirmed with people doing this work

The short answer

A fair way to get cash coming in within days if you already own a two-wheeler, and a poor long-term plan. The pay per order is set by the app and can be cut at any time, you carry every cost, and nothing you learn raises your income next year. Use it as a bridge while you train or prepare for something steadier.

Quick-commerce apps keep stock in small warehouses called dark stores and promise delivery in minutes. You log in at one store, wait for orders, pick up the packed bag and ride to addresses that are usually within a few kilometres. Because the distances are short, you ride fewer kilometres per order than in food delivery, but you spend a lot of time waiting at the store, and waiting is not paid. You are not an employee: there is no salary, no paid leave and no provident fund. The app calls you a partner and pays for each completed order, with extra for rain, late nights or hitting a target.

What you need

  • Age 18 or above.
  • A two-wheeler with its RC and insurance, or a cycle or e-bike where the platform accepts them. Ask at the store: this differs by city.
  • A valid driving licence if you ride a motor vehicle.
  • An Android smartphone with mobile data.
  • Aadhaar, PAN and a bank account in your own name for payouts.
  • Money for the first week or two of petrol, because payouts come after the work is done.

How the money works

The app pays a base amount for each order, more for longer distances, and incentives for peak hours, rain, late nights or completing a set number of orders. The total is paid into your bank account, usually every week. You pay for petrol, servicing, tyres, mobile data and any traffic fines.

  • The rate card is set by the platform and changes without notice. Read it in the app on the day you join, not on a recruiter's poster.
  • Incentives make up a large part of the income and depend on targets. Missing a target by one order can lose the whole bonus.
  • When apps club two orders into one trip, you are paid less per order for nearly the same work.
  • Time spent logged in but waiting earns nothing.

What people actually take home

We do not estimate earnings ourselves. Each line below is someone else's figure, with who said it and when.

  • The founder of Zomato and Blinkit said in a public post that delivery partners net about ₹21,000 a month after roughly 20% for fuel and vehicle maintenance. This covers Zomato and Blinkit together.

  • A Telangana gig workers' union replied that the same figure works out to about ₹81 an hour over roughly 260 hours of work a month.

  • A salary website estimates that a full-time Zepto rider doing 25 to 35 deliveries a day grosses ₹500 to ₹800 a day and is left with ₹9,000 to ₹16,000 a month after fuel.

  • A recruitment website lists Zepto's base pay at ₹25 to ₹35 an order, and total earnings of ₹15,000 to ₹28,000 a month in metros and ₹10,000 to ₹14,000 in smaller cities. Recruiters are paid to sign riders up, so read this as the upper end.

What we could not find

  • An independent survey of quick-commerce riders' earnings for 2026. None of the figures above comes from one.
  • The current official rate card of any platform. They are shown only inside the rider app and differ by city.
  • The exact joining or kit charge on each platform.

Work out your own number

Put in the rates you are actually offered. The starting values are examples, not what you will get.

Fill in the empty boxes to see the result. We have left them empty because we found no figure we could trust.

The starting 25 orders and ₹30 an order are the low end of the website estimates quoted above, not a rate we have confirmed. Replace them with the figures in your own app. If you ride a cycle, enter 0 km.

Count the hours you are logged in and waiting, not only the hours you are riding. Vehicle wear, repairs, traffic fines and days without work come out of the same money.

Is it legal where you live?

  • All India

The Code on Social Security, 2020 recognises gig and platform workers and requires platforms to pay into a social security fund. Workers can register on the e-Shram portal for an Aadhaar-linked ID. The law is reported to be in force from November 2025, but the rules for paying out benefits were still being completed when we checked.

How to start

  1. Visit the dark store nearest your home and ask the riders there what they make after petrol. This is the most reliable number you will get.
  2. Download the platform's own rider app from the Play Store. Do not register through an agent's link or a WhatsApp group.
  3. Upload Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, RC and bank details, and complete the short in-app training.
  4. Read the rate card and the incentive rules for your city before your first shift.
  5. Register on the e-Shram portal (eshram.gov.in). It is free.
  6. Keep a simple daily note for one month: orders, payout, petrol, hours logged in. Then decide whether to continue.

What is good about it

  • You can be earning within days, with no interview and no qualification.
  • You choose your own days and hours, so it fits around classes or exam preparation.
  • Short distances compared with food delivery.
  • Weekly payouts.

What is hard about it

  • No fixed pay. The platform can change the rate card or club orders whenever it likes.
  • Fuel, repairs, tyres and fines are yours. A single accident or breakdown can wipe out a month.
  • Riding in traffic, rain and heat for long hours is hard on the body, and the time pressure adds risk on the road.
  • A private vehicle's insurance may not cover an accident during commercial delivery work. Ask your insurer.
  • The app can block your ID after complaints or low ratings, with little chance to explain.
  • No promotion and no skill that raises your pay over time.

Traps to avoid

  • Agents who charge a 'registration fee' or 'ID activation fee' to get you onto a platform. Sign-up through the official app is free of any such fee.
  • People who rent out a delivery ID in someone else's name. If anything goes wrong on the road you have no cover, and the account holder gets your payout.
  • Vehicle rental or e-bike 'schemes' with a daily charge so high that little is left. Add the rental to 'other costs' in the calculator before you agree.

Questions people ask

Can I do Zepto or Blinkit delivery without a bike?+

In some cities the platforms accept cycles and e-bikes, and some partner with e-bike rental companies. It differs by city and by store, so ask at the dark store nearest you. A rented vehicle has a daily charge that must come out of your earnings.

Is a delivery partner an employee of the company?+

No. You are paid per order as an independent partner. There is no salary, paid leave, provident fund or notice period. Platforms usually arrange some accident insurance for riders; check the cover and how to claim it inside the app.

How much do Zepto delivery partners really earn?+

There is no independent survey. Website estimates range from about ₹9,000 to ₹28,000 a month, and the higher figures come from recruiters. The founder of Zomato and Blinkit has put net earnings near ₹21,000 a month, which a workers' union says is about ₹81 an hour. Ask riders at your local store and use the calculator with your own app's rates.

Is part-time delivery worth it?+

Incentives are usually tied to a number of orders or hours, so part-time riders often miss them and earn mostly the base pay. Work the evening peak if you can only do a few hours, and check the result per hour in the calculator.
