About HowIndiaEarns
Most people in India earn a living in one of two ways: a job, or a business of their own. Both decisions are usually made with very little real information. Lakhs of young people spend years preparing for government exams without knowing what the job is like or what it pays in hand. And most “business idea” articles only say “low investment, good profit”.
HowIndiaEarns gives the actual picture for both. For a government post: the daily work, the in-hand salary in your city, promotions and transfers. For a small business: what each machine costs, what goes into one kilo or one piece, the licences, and what a normal month looks like.
Many people start with neither a degree nor savings. For them there is a third section on work that needs little or no money: delivery, agency work and paid apprenticeships. There we do not estimate earnings at all. We show what others have reported, say who reported it, and say plainly when no reliable figure exists. Things sold online as easy income, such as day trading, get a page that sets out what the regulator's own numbers show.
How we research
- Jobs: pay level, qualification and age limits come from official notifications and recruitment rules, which are linked on each page.
- Salaries are never typed in by hand. They are calculated from the current pay rules (DA 60%, January 2026), so they update for every post at once when the rules change.
- Businesses: machinery prices are typical prices from supplier listings and quotations at the time of research. Each page says when prices were checked.
- Profit is never typed in. It is calculated from the stated prices and costs, so you can see and change every assumption. Loan and licence rules are kept in one rules file (as of October 2026).
- We use AI-assisted research to gather and organise information, and every profile is reviewed before it is marked as checked. Pages that have not yet been checked say so at the top.
Independence
HowIndiaEarns is not a government website and is not linked to any recruiting body, bank or supplier. Everything is free to use, including the project report. We earn from advertising and from commission on books bought through our Amazon links. Nobody can pay to change what we write or the numbers we publish.
