What you will actually do
- Commanding a platoon or section of constables
- Border guarding, counter-insurgency or industrial security duty, depending on the force
- Planning patrols, guard rosters and area domination
- Maintaining discipline, training and welfare of the men
- Election, law-and-order and disaster duty on deployment
- Keeping arms, ammunition and post records
A typical day
What the day looks like depends on the force. In BSF, ITBP or SSB you live at a border outpost, check night patrol reports, brief parties, inspect the fence line and handle the post's administration. In CRPF you may be in a camp in a Naxal-affected or insurgency area, going out on operations. CISF is closer to shift duty at an airport, metro or plant. In all of them you live with your unit, far from family, for long stretches.
