What you will actually do

  • Inspecting every post office and branch office in the sub-division each year
  • Supervising Gramin Dak Sevaks, postmen and postal assistants
  • Investigating complaints, losses and frauds
  • Driving targets for savings accounts, postal life insurance and India Post Payments Bank
  • Engaging and disciplining Gramin Dak Sevaks
  • Ensuring mail delivery and cash arrangements run smoothly

A typical day

As a sub-divisional inspector you are on the road most days, often on your own motorcycle, visiting village branch offices to check cash, stamps and savings ledgers. You listen to complaints, verify a few passbooks at account holders' homes, and write an inspection report in the evening. There are constant calls about targets for new accounts and insurance policies, and a fraud case anywhere in the sub-division lands on your desk.
