Loan Agent (DSA for banks and NBFCs)
लोन एजेंट (डीएसए) · लोन एजंट (डीएसए)
Finding people who need a home, personal, business or vehicle loan and passing their applications to a bank or finance company, for a commission when the loan is paid out.
The short answer
A workable side income for someone who already meets many borrowers, such as a property broker, an accountant, an insurance agent or a car dealer. As a stand-alone start it is slow: you are paid only when a loan is disbursed, most applications fail, and commission can be taken back. Never take money from the customer.

Banks and finance companies use outside agents, called Direct Selling Agents, to bring in loan customers. You sign an agreement with a lender, or with a larger agency that holds agreements with many lenders, and receive a code. You then find borrowers, explain the products, collect documents and submit the file. The lender does its own checks and decides. If the loan is disbursed, you are paid a percentage of the amount. Most small agents start as sub-agents ('connectors') under a bigger DSA, who keeps part of the commission.
What you need
- Age 18 or above.
- PAN, Aadhaar, a bank account and, for some lenders, GST registration.
- An agreement with a lender or with an established DSA firm.
- Working knowledge of loan types, eligibility, credit scores and the documents each loan needs.
- A source of customers: a profession or network where people regularly need loans.
- Care with customers' documents and personal data.
How the money works
The lender, or the DSA firm above you, pays a commission as a percentage of each loan disbursed through your code, usually in the month after disbursal. Nothing is paid for applications that are rejected or dropped.
- Secured loans such as home loans pay a small percentage on a large amount; unsecured loans pay a higher percentage on a small amount.
- If the customer closes the loan early or defaults within a set period, the commission can be recovered from you.
- As a sub-agent you receive only part of the payout.
What people actually take home
We do not estimate earnings ourselves. Each line below is someone else's figure, with who said it and when.
One finance site puts DSA commission at about 0.25% to 1% of the loan amount for home loans and 1% to 3% for personal loans. A second gives similar ranges and warns that payouts are clawed back if a loan closes or bounces within about 6 to 12 months. Both sites recruit agents.

What we could not find
- Any lender's official payout chart.
- What an average agent earns, or what share of applications are approved.
- The Reserve Bank's current rules for agents in a form we could read. Lenders are responsible for their agents' conduct.
| Ask before you start | Where to ask |
|---|---|
| What is the payout for each loan type, when is it paid, and what are the clawback terms? | The lender's or DSA firm's agreement, before you sign |
| What share of the payout do I get as a sub-agent? | The DSA firm, in writing |
| Is this firm really empanelled with the bank? | The bank's branch or its website |
Work out your own number
Put in the rates you are actually offered. The starting values are examples, not what you will get.
Fill in the empty boxes to see the result. We have left them empty because we found no figure we could trust.
Count only loans that are actually disbursed, not applications. Enter the percentage that reaches you after any share kept by the firm above you.
Commission does not arrive evenly. Expect months with nothing, and count the months before your first sale as unpaid.
Is it legal where you live?
All India
A loan agent works under a written agreement with a regulated lender, which remains responsible for the agent's conduct. An agent may not charge the customer for arranging a loan, promise approval, alter documents or share customers' data. Submitting false documents is a criminal offence for the agent as well as the borrower.

How to start
- Start alongside existing work where you already meet borrowers.
- Join as a connector with one established DSA firm and learn two products well.
- Check each customer's credit score and documents before submitting; rejections waste everyone's time.
- Keep a record of every file, its status and the payout due.
- Apply for your own code with lenders once you have steady volume.
What is good about it
- Nothing to invest, and it can be done by phone.
- Fits naturally with property, insurance, accounting or vehicle sales.
- One home loan can pay a meaningful commission.
- Every town has demand for loans.
What is hard about it
- Paid only on disbursal, weeks or months after the work.
- Most applications do not turn into disbursed loans.
- Clawbacks if the borrower prepays or defaults early.
- Crowded field; customers can apply online themselves.
- Legal trouble if a customer's documents turn out to be forged.
Traps to avoid
- Being asked to collect an advance 'processing fee' from customers. Genuine lenders deduct charges from the loan. This is the commonest loan fraud, and the agent is the one customers find.
- Firms that charge you a fee for a DSA code or franchise.
- Customers offering extra money to 'manage' their eligibility. Refuse.

Questions people ask
How much commission does a loan DSA get?+
Recruiting sites quote roughly 0.25% to 1% on home loans and 1% to 3% on personal loans, paid after disbursal and subject to clawback. Actual payouts differ by lender; ask for the chart in writing.
Can a DSA charge the customer a fee?+
No. The agent is paid by the lender. Taking money from a customer for arranging a loan is how loan frauds work and can lead to a police case.
