What you will actually do
- Collecting and developing intelligence on drug trafficking
- Taking part in surveillance, raids, seizures and arrests
- Preparing seizure memos and case files under the NDPS Act
- Coordinating with state police, Customs and other agencies
- Assisting prosecution in NDPS courts
A typical day
A zonal unit has a small team, so everyone does everything. You may spend days at the office analysing call records and financial trails, then a night on surveillance outside a courier hub or at a highway toll. A seizure is followed by hours of sampling, sealing and paperwork that must be exactly right for the case to survive in court. Work is unpredictable and information often comes at odd hours.
