What you will actually do

  • Investigating insider trading, fraud and market manipulation
  • Drafting regulations, circulars and orders
  • Handling investor complaints and enforcement follow-up

A typical day

You join a department such as corporation finance, market intermediaries, investigation or enforcement. The work is reading: prospectuses, trading data, replies from companies, legal precedents. You draft observation letters, show-cause notices or a note proposing a rule change, which then goes through several levels of review. During an investigation or a big public issue the hours stretch; otherwise the office keeps regular timings.
