A typical day

You work shifts from a police station, a police post or the emergency response fleet. A day can be a highway checkpoint, a shift on a Dial 112 vehicle answering calls, or bandobast at a rally in another district. Shifts overrun and weekly rest is uncertain when there is an agitation or a festival. Much of the job is standing duty and following the station officer's instructions.

Eligibility: 10+2 from a recognised board or institution, with Hindi or Sanskrit up to matric standard or higher. No extra weightage is given for higher education. Age 18–25. Age is counted on the date in the advertisement (1 January 2026 for Advt. 01/2026). Reserved categories of Haryana and ex-servicemen get relaxation under state instructions.

Physical standards: Men: height 170 cm (168 cm for eligible reserved categories), chest 83 cm unexpanded with 4 cm expansion (81 cm for reserved categories). Women: height 158 cm, with a lower limit for reserved categories as per the advertisement. Run: 2.5 km in 12 minutes for men, 1 km in 6 minutes for women, 1 km in 5 minutes for ex-servicemen.
